Produce is in our name! Since the beginning, we’ve been committed to bringing Ann Arbor the finest produce around, from Michigan and the rest of the world! Extreme quality and variety are our focus!

Seasonality is what drives us everyday. In season, shipments of locally sourced fruits and vegetables arrive each day. The Produce Station has been working with Michigan farmers since 1986. We currently work with over 100 growers to bring you the finest local and Michigan-grown produce in Ann Arbor. We offer the best heirloom varieties, locally sourced greens, root vegetables, apples, stone fruit and berries. They're often still warm from the sun when they hit the shelves. That's fresh! In order to offer exceptional year-round variety, we also import the finest, freshest produce from warmer climates, We LOVE produce, it's the name of our game - The Produce Station.

CHEESE & PROVISIONS

We love new American artisan cheeses, and are also proud to carry favorite imports as well. Each day our case is stocked full with pre-cut cheeses in a variety of sizes for your individual needs. In the warmer months, we carry house-made mozzarella - it's super fresh! Our featured cheeses rotate monthly, showcasing the seasonal variations in milk and climate that impact the qualities of each cheese. If you're looking for something special to serve, ask our resident cheesemonger for recommended pairings. Our shelves are stocked with the best selection of wines, craft beers, artisan crackers, fruit preserves, savory olives and fine charcuterie. And then there's our produce: nothing like a fresh ripe fig paired with a wedge of gooey brie.  We're happy to bring in new cheeses too! Just ask if you're looking for something special.

Wine at The Produce Station is led by venerable Ann Arbor wine personality Hugo Ristow. Hugo has worked in the wine business for over 30 years, and he has a passion for finding amazing deals for his customers. Additionally, Hugo loves the thrill of the hunt, and he can track down a bottle or a case of nearly any wine that is available in the state of Michigan for you!

Be sure to stop by our store and chat with Hugo on Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 10am and 6pm.

Artisan Bakery

We believe the best bread is baked fresh and sold the same day. We love the wholesome, homey smell when the Rustic Italian arrives from Zingerman’s Bakehouse each day, and we think you will, too! We’re also happy to offer bread and pastry from Bird Dog Baking, and breads from Avalon International Breads in Detroit. And don’t forget to check out baked goods from Tasty Bakery, made fresh in Ann Arbor with dietary needs like gluten-free and vegan in mind. Each holiday season, we bring in an impressive array of cookies from The Cookie Lady. At The Produce Station, we think everyone deserves a treat.

The Produce Station had its beginnings in 1979 as a response to the Ann Arbor community's desire for higher quality produce. Back then, the building was a wholesale warehouse for Frog Holler Produce Co. In July of 1986, The Produce Station was born from the vision of founder Rick Peshkin. In the beginning, his vision was to create a store to sell, educate and turn customers on to the highest quality produce. Eventually this vision grew to include selling a variety of quality ingredients to make a great meal at home and also cooking with these great ingredients in our kitchen and catering. The vision that started back then remains strong today under the leadership of owner Craig Schmidt, a little bigger, and a little more refined. Craig got his start working at his parents store, Schmidt’s Roadside in Plymouth, MI. Over the years he learned everything there is to know about produce, plants and running a business.

The Produce Station is located just south of the University of Michigan's central campus, at the railroad tracks. In the warmer months, you can't miss our outdoor green umbrellas shading bountiful displays of produce and plants. Our baskets and bushels are brimming with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and oh, so many plants! We carry veggie starts, herbs, flats of perennials and decorative arrangements for every season. Our garden center is always fresh and seasonally abundant. Visiting The Produce Station is like having access to a farmer's market every day of the week. 

The Produce Station Kitchen makes all of our entrees, soups, salads, dressings and sides right here.
